David Ruiz is a writer and educator from Benque Viejo del Carmen, Belize. Ruiz’s work, such as Old Benque (1990), often highlights Belizean culture and folklore. His other work includes La Visita and Under the Yax’che Tree: on Legends, Tales, and Apparitions in Western Belize.

Ruiz has stated that “The greatest contribution a Country can make is to invest in its people… the onus is all on us …parents sitting with their children, grandparents with grandchildren, teachers investing in young people.”
